Hi Anna, the Call of Duty 4 Modern warfare story , wow, there are many as I begin to recount but the central focus of the story relayed to Jemima was the creation of charlieoscardelta.com which was the 1st franchise driven community. As part of the marketing and buzz surrounding the launch of the game we invited fans into a closed beta test on Xbox. The day this was announced was a day to remember. The response completely overwhelmed the servers as people scrambled to become part of the pre release beta play. What was on offer to them was a test run the new game , to scenario test it and provide feedback to the game studio ( Infinity Ward ) on how to improve it for release, which they did. 500,000 people joined in for the pre release test.
One of the more remarkable stories surrounding the collaboration an co creation stories about the launch of Modern Warfare was the 1st patch or modification that supported a special face game pad. It named after an avid COD gamer who had lost his arms e.g has no hands and plays the videogame with a face pad or guard that responds to facial movements. Infinity Ward honoured him.

Hi John,

Thanks so much for this review and for saying so many lovely things about "Monkeys with Typewriters".

I really put my heart into the book and it felt like the rest of my life was on hold for the 18 months I was writing it, but (for the most part!) I really enjoyed the experience. It was a fantastic opportunity to talk to (and in many cases meet face to face) people like yourself, working at the coal face of social media, and the real cutting edge of what's possible.

I find myself telling your story about Call of Duty 4 again and again - a great example of not just marketing but customer-engaging collaboration - true co-creation!
